Transportation Home

Due to the failure of recent operating levies, Franklin City Schools has been required to reduce expenses across the district. As a result, the district is providing transportation at the minimum level required by Ohio law.

This includes:

• No transportation for high school students attending Franklin High School.
• No transportation for students in grades K–8 who live within a two-mile walking radius of their assigned school.
• Students may be assigned a bus stop up to one-half (½) mile from their residence.

Yes, specifically for: 

• Warren County Career Center
• Miami University Early College Academy (ECA)

Students enrolled in these programs will be transported from Franklin High School to their respective campuses. Families are responsible for providing transportation to and from Franklin High School.

Students whose Individualized Education Program (IEP) includes transportation as a related service will continue to receive transportation in accordance with their IEP.

Yes. Franklin City Schools will provide transportation from the YMCA program at Schenck Elementary and Hunter Safe Care. 

Kindergarten placement is determined by the student's registered home address. Transportation is provided to and from one (1) address only for each student.

Manchester Road serves as the attendance boundary:

• Addresses north of Manchester Road will attend the AM session.
• Addresses south of Manchester Road will attend the PM session.
• Addresses located on Manchester Road will attend the AM session.

Students who use a babysitter or childcare provider must use a location within the same AM or PM attendance zone as their assigned session. Transportation cannot be split between home and a childcare provider on different days of the week.

For student safety, kindergarten students must be met at the bus stop by an authorized adult. If an authorized adult is not present, the student will remain on the bus and be returned to school. Bus drivers may request photo identification before releasing a student. Anyone other than a parent or legal guardian must be listed with the school as an authorized individual.

No. Only students who are assigned to a specific bus and bus stop may ride that bus. Friend or guest riders are not permitted.

No. Ohio law requires students to be waiting at the bus stop before the bus arrives.

Bus drivers count students waiting at the stop before loading them and verify the count as students board the bus. This process helps ensure every student is safely accounted for.

Having students wait at the bus stop before the bus arrives also prevents children from chasing after a moving bus, which is extremely dangerous. Additionally, many school districts instruct drivers not to stop if no students are visible at the designated bus stop.

No. Ohio law does not require parents to be able to see the bus stop from their residence.

Students may legally be assigned a bus stop up to one-half (½) mile from their home. Families are encouraged to walk with younger children to and from the bus stop whenever possible to help teach safe walking practices and provide additional supervision.

Bus stop locations are determined by the local board of education.

No. Sidewalks are not required.

Many students in Ohio walk along roadways where sidewalks are unavailable. While families may have concerns about specific walking routes, the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce does not establish individual bus stop locations.

Questions or concerns regarding the safety of a walking route or bus stop location should be directed to the Franklin City Schools Transportation Department for review.
