Veteran's Day at Anthony Wayne

Nov 13, 2017
at 12:00 am

Anthony Wayne students and staff were joined by active and retired military around the flagpole on Friday, November 10th.  The ceremony included the raising of a special flag that was flown in combat over Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom aboard a Hercules Aircraft by Captain Joshua M. Vance, USMC that was dedicated to Anthony Wayne in October of 2004.  As  part of the ceremony, a moment of silence was shared while Taps was played on the bugle by a retired military Veteran and a member of the local VFW.  In addition, first grade students led everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance and sixth graders sang a patriotic song led by music teacher, Michael Milham.  As a special treat, students were able to speak with Veterans and view medals that were earned from the Vietnam War that included the Purple Heart and Bronze Star!  The entire Anthony Wayne school community send thanks to all our men and women in uniform past, present and future.
