Crossing Guard injured in incident near Franklin Junior High School

The Franklin City School District is deeply concerned following an incident this morning in which a dedicated crossing guard was struck by a vehicle driven by an adult while assisting students crossing the intersection of Beam Drive and 4th Street in the designated crosswalk in front of the junior high campus.

The incident occurred at approximately 7:20 AM when the crossing guard was in the process of ensuring that students crossed safely before school. Emergency personnel responded quickly, and the crossing guard was transported to Atrium Medical Center for medical evaluation and treatment. No students were injured in the accident.

“Crossing guards play a vital role in keeping our students safe, and we’re keeping her in our thoughts as she recovers,” said Michael Sander, Superintendent of Schools. “We urge all drivers to remain vigilant, obey traffic laws, and exercise extreme caution around school zones.”

The driver was cited and the accident is under investigation. The district is collaborating with the Franklin Police Department and the City of Franklin to develop a plan to improve safety on Fourth Street and throughout the City of Franklin.

The safety and well-being of our students, staff, and community remain the highest priority. We appreciate the continued cooperation of parents, students, and drivers in ensuring that our school zones remain safe for everyone.
