George H. Gerke Elementary School

Principal's Message

Gerke Principal

Dear Students, Parents, and Guardians,

Welcome back to another exciting school year!  For those of you new to Gerke, I want to welcome you to our school.  At Gerke, we strive to be a place where students want to be each day. We have a caring staff that wants each child to reach his/her potential academically as well as socially and emotionally.  I think that your experience with our staff will be wonderful this year.

Change is inevitable and is exciting!  We have a couple of new teachers at Gerke this year as well as some internal shifting.  With new staff comes new ideas. Our primary hallway now has a sensory walk for students to use if they need a break or to just decompress, if necessary.  We are beginning the third year of our PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention Supports) program. Each student is asked to Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Reliable.  This year we are utilizing a new program called “Move This World”. Move this World is a social-emotional learning program delivered through evidence-based, developmentally appropriate videos, to encourage, enhance, and build safe and supportive learning environments.

The last few years our PTO has grown from a couple of people doing everything to a group that now meets monthly and plans activities throughout the school year for our students.  Please get involved if you are able to.

On a personal note… I have been an elementary principal (Hunter and Gerke) in Franklin for the past 20 years and have loved being here.  I have found the community to be great to work with. If I can ever help you, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Let’s make it a GREAT school year!
