Franklin High School to stage Sweeney Todd

Franklin High School will present Stephen Sondheim's Sweeney Todd on March 16, 17 and 18. The musical will be under the direction of Jeff Sams, with the pit orchestra directed by Josh Long.

Showtimes will be 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, with a 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday

An infamous tale, Sweeney Todd, an unjustly exiled barber, returns to nineteenth-century London, seeking vengeance against the judge who framed him in pursuit of his young wife. The road to revenge leads Todd to Mrs. Lovett, a resourceful proprietress of a failing pie shop, above which he opens a new barber practice. Mrs. Lovett's luck sharply shifts when Todd's thirst for vengeance inspires the integration of an ingredient into her meat pies that has the people of London lining up... and the carnage has only just begun!

Franklin High School has never produced a show like Sweeney Todd, which many consider to be one of the greatest musicals in American theatre. FHS is producing the School Edition of this show, but it may be too intense for young students and children.
