Franklin Junior High to present Romeo, You Idiot

Everyone knows the story: Romeo and Juliet's romance overcame serious obstacles including itchy poison ivy, mafia rivalries, and a wooing vampire. Nothing could tear them apart. Nothing except poison, that is.

If this story sounds familiar, but not exactly the way you remember it, don't miss Franklin Junior High Drama Club's production of Romeo, You Idiot. The play, by Tim Kochenderfer, is an irreverent spoof of Shakespeare's classic.

The show will be presented on Thursday, March 8, at 7 p.m. in the Junior High Media Center. Tickets will be $4 at the door. The play is under the direction of Brittany Rathge.

Cast members include Madalyn Mink (Chorus One/Page), Jessica Sprout (Chorus Two/Abraham), Andrea Richards (Police Chief), Maria Koss (Mercutio), Tess Johnson (Benvolio), Caylynn Simmons (Gregory), Ella Kittel (Samson), Josh Hamilton (Montague), Shelby Van Woert (Lady Montague), Adian Defrates (Romeo), Donovan Holweger (Capulet), Autumn Metcalf (Lady Capulet), Ashley Back (Juliet), Camille Lafferty (Tybalt),
Nina Lin (Nurse), Ryan Van Woert (Paris), Rebecca Walker (Friar Lawrence), Lucinda Curry (Friar John), Jordanna Tinch (Servingman/Messenger/Police Officer), and Alivia Fryer (Potion Dealer).

Rathge, who is in her third year of directing the FJHS plays, said the cast began rehearsals in mid-December. She noted that the cast and crew is a mix of 7th and 8th grade students; for some this is their first theater experience.

Franklin Junior High is at 150 E. Sixth St.
